Basketball Game Preview: Gateway Olympians vs. Thornton Trojans

The Gateway Olympians are taking a road trip to square off against the Thornton Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway will be strutting in after a victory while Thornton will be coming in after a loss.

Gateway took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They secured a 59-55 W over Aurora Central.

Meanwhile, Thornton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-49 heartbreaker at the hands of Adams City.

Gateway will need to focus on slowing down Jakiha Carter, one of several Thornton players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 14 points. Erick Almarza was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Thornton's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 4-14.

Gateway didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Thornton in their previous meeting two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 72-67 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Olympians since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
