Mayfield and Las Cruces are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Mayfield Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Las Cruces Bulldawgs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Mayfield sitting on 22 straight wins and Las Cruces on five.

Last Wednesday, Mayfield didn't have too much trouble with Organ Mountain as they won 46-32. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth in New Mexico, while the Knights are ranked 56th in New Mexico), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Las Cruces strolled past Centennial with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 41-27.

Mayfield better keep an eye on Bethzy Quinones. She was instrumental in Las Cruces' win, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Quinones a new career-high. Sofia Herrera was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Mayfield pushed their record up to 23-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points over those games. As for Las Cruces, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.

Mayfield skirted past Las Cruces 34-32 in their previous matchup on February 6th. Does Mayfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Las Cruces turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
