Football Recap: South Lake Eagles vs. Forest Wildcats
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Lake). They walked away with a 38-27 victory over the Forest Wildcats on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2023.
It was another big night for Marcel Walker, who picked up 85 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending four passes. Tre Kelly was another key player, throwing for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, South Lake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Despite the defeat, Forest saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Sanford threw for 340 yards on 22 of 36 attempts, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Those 340 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Sanford. A healthy portion of that aerial production (141 yards to be exact) went to Desean Freeman, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
South Lake's win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3. As for Forest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
It'll be Battle of the Birds when Eagles challenges Horizon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South Lake is facing Horizon at the right time seeing as Horizon is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Forest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
