Football Game Preview: Concordia Lutheran Crusaders vs. St. Thomas Catholic Eagles

Concordia Lutheran is 1-9 against St. Thomas Catholic since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Crusaders will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. Thomas Catholic will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Concordia Lutheran extended their winning streak to five on Friday. The Crusaders took their contest with ease, bagging a 53-8 win over Savio. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Eagles are ranked 1006th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led St. Thomas Catholic over Antonian Prep in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Eagles blew the Apaches out of the water with a 70-20 final score. With the Eagles ahead 42-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Concordia Lutheran better keep an eye on Pierce Jacobson. He was instrumental in St. Thomas Catholic's win, rushing for 56 yards and three TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 196 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 passes. That's the most passing touchdowns Jacobson has posted since back in October of 2024. Myles Stewart was another key player, rushing for 158 yards and one score on only 13 carries.

St. Thomas Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 218 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

St. Thomas Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Quinlan and Dean Thomas. St. Thomas Catholic got some further help from Obinna Umeh: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Concordia Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for St. Thomas Catholic, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-1.
