Recap: Burke County Bears vs. South Aiken Thoroughbreds
The Burke County Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season. They really took it to South Aiken for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-40 victory on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-22.
Bryce Wimberly continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kelly Williams, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, South Aiken still got an impressive performance from Ladontae Felton, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Felton scored a full 50% of South Aiken's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyson McLeod, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
South Aiken struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Burke County, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. As for South Aiken, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.
Burke County is on the road again on Thursday and play against Richmond Hill at 11:30 a.m. on December 21, 2023. Richmond Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Burke County is ranked 150th). As for South Aiken, they will head out on the road to face off against Greenbrier at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday. Greenbrier is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
