Preview: Peyton Panthers vs. Strasburg Indians
Peyton has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Having just played yesterday, they will head out on the road to face off against the Strasburg Indians at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Peyton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They claimed a resounding 100-24 victory over Rye at home. Peyton pushed the score to 100-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Rye cut but never quite recovered from.
Peyton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Abbie Nickell, who scored 35 points, and AJ Mannering, who scored 51 points. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Mannering has scored at least a third of Peyton's points. Emme Ratliff was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Strasburg came tearing into Friday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Wellington 68-21 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Peyton pushed their record up to 17-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.9 points per game. As for Strasburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
