Baseball Recap: St. John's Has No Trouble Against Woodland

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Porter-Gaud, St. John was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Woodland Wolverines. The result was nothing new for the Islanders, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Micah Davison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for St. John's: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Antonio Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. St. John's is 6-1 when Hernandez posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Davis Crowley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

St. John's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Woodland, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John's will host Lowcountry Leadership at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Woodland, they will welcome Timberland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines are facing the Wolves at the right time seeing as the Wolves are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
