The 2023 high school football season in Pennsylvania kicks off later this month and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending Class 6A state champion
St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
St. Joseph's Prep won its seventh state title in the last decade and finished with a 12-1 record a year ago. Back to lead the charge for the Hawks will be senior quarterback
Samaj Jones, who accounted for more than 3,200 yards and 46 touchdowns.
In addition to St. Joseph's Prep, other defending state champions include
Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia) in Class 5A,
Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg) in Class 4A,
Belle Vernon in Class 3A,
Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa) in Class 2A and
Steelton-Highspire (Steelton)in Class 1A.
