Jaida Civil named 2024-25 Florida MaxPreps High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year

Senior guard led Palm Bay to Class 4A state title.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Jaida Civil of Palm Bay (Melbourne) is the 2024-25 Florida MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot senior point guard led the Pirates to a 25-7 record and the the Class 4A state title, the school's first.

For the season, Civil averaged team-highs of 18.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.3 steals per game. In a 67-57 win over American Heritage (Plantation) in the state final, she posted 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Civil put up a season-high 36 points in January against Heritage (Palm Bay) and 31 against national power Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) in December.

Regarded as a top 25 prospect in the senior class by 247Sports, Civil committed to Tennessee in November. She was selected to participate in the McDonald's All American Game next month.



Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released in April. Past selections include 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player A'ja Wilson (2014) as well as 2024 All-WNBA first team picks Caitlin Clark (2020), Napheesa Collier (2015), Breanna Stewart (2012) and Alyssa Thomas (2010).
