Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. Hayward Farmers

The Mt. Diablo Red Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Hayward Farmers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mt. Diablo's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six contests, but Saturday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mt. Diablo lost 21-2 to Las Lomas on Thursday.

Mt. Diablo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joel Zamora Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Zamora Martinez's first of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hayward). Everything went their way against San Lorenzo on Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Farmers in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won six in a row.

Hayward got a massive performance out of Jakye Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liam Conley, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Hayward was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mt. Diablo's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Hayward, their record now sits at 5-16.
