Basketball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Clearwater Central Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the St. Petersburg Green Devils. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Marauders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-51 back in November of 2024.

Clearwater Central Catholic's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Emme Dalhoff, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards, and Sophia Landen, who shot 6-for-9 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. That's the most boards Dalhoff has posted since back in December of 2023. Marie Marcinek was another key player, putting up four points and 13 rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Petersburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaw Summer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was Summer's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ella Abernethy, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Clearwater Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for St. Petersburg, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Clearwater Central Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-31 victory against Braden River on the 28th. As for St. Petersburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-44 loss against Bishop Kenny on the 28th.
