Donna is 0-5 against Harlingen South since March of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Redskins will be playing at home against the Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Donna has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Donna is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 14-1 to Weslaco East.
Meanwhile, Harlingen South got themselves on the board against Lopez on Tuesday, but Lopez never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Lobos with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Lexi Sandoval was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Harlingen South let Kara Jensen and Angela Perez run wild. Jensen scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Perez scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Perez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evette Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Harlingen South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lopez only posted an OBP of .095.
Harlingen South is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Donna, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Donna has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Harlingen South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Donna might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Harlingen South in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Redskins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
