Chavez dropped their record down to 9-12 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kennedy Cougars. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.
Lenina Garcia was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nadine Valdez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Yliana Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
As for Kennedy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
On Kennedy's side, Aubrie Rodriguez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Melaney Velasco was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Brooklyn Williams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Chavez will take on Verdugo Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Kennedy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-7 loss against Sierra Canyon on the 1st.
