Elgin is 8-2 against Mt. Gilead since August of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Comets will be taking part in a tournament against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. Elgin will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Elgin made easy work of Horizon Science Academy and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Elgin took every set by at least 16 points. The final score came out to 25-6, 25-9, 25-6.

Elgin found their leader in sophomore Jocelyn Wall, who had eight digs and five aces. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for Wall.
Elgin was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 21 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in August of 2024.
Meanwhile, Mt. Gilead narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Grandview Heights 3-2.
Mt. Gilead took Grandview Heights into a fifth set where they got it done with a 12-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-17, 25-11, 10-25, 15-3.
Mt. Gilead found their leader in sophomore Kylee Whipple, who had 23 digs and one assist. Kylie Rigdon also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Mt. Gilead's victory bumped their record up to 4-19. As for Elgin, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Elgin has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Mt. Gilead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Elgin's way against Mt. Gilead when the teams last played back in August, as Elgin made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
