Basketball Game Preview: Thoreau Hawks vs. Zuni Thunderbirds

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hawks take on the Thunderbirds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Thoreau is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2024 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 60-33 loss at the hands of Tohatchi. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Thoreau saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madison Woodie posted 14 points.

Meanwhile, Zuni was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They fell 48-40 to Crownpoint.

Zuni's loss dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Thoreau, they now have a losing record at 11-12.

Everything went Thoreau's way against Zuni when the teams last played back in January, as Thoreau made off with a 59-38 win. Does Thoreau have another victory up their sleeve, or will Zuni turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
