Pace hasn't had much luck against Harlingen South recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pace Vikings will be playing at home against the Harlingen South Hawks at 7:30 p.m.
Pace is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-41 heartbreaker at the hands of Weslaco East. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 12-7 in the first quarter.

Pace might have lost, but man, Bre Nelson was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Nelson has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Cavazos, who posted a point and seven steals.
Even though they lost, Pace smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Harlingen South entered their tilt with Rivera on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 58-37 victory. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 21 points or more this season.
Harlingen South's win came from a few key players Pace will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Serena Cano, who put up 14 points along with six assists and four steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jiselle Montemayor, who had ten points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.
Harlingen South has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Pace, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pace has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Harlingen South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Pace was taken down by Harlingen South 73-31 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pace was down 49-18.
