Baseball Recap: Dodd City Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Dodd City walked away with it. They won by a run and slipped past the Sulphur Bluff Bears 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Hornets: when they faced off against the Bears on Saturday, they had to take a 14-1 loss.

Caysen Lappin and Gavin Shindler made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Lappin pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Shindler pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Lappin also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dodd City is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-15 otherwise. At bat, Lappin got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Shindler went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Shindler has hit this season.

In other batting news, Cash Crossland was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Dodd City: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-15 otherwise.

Dodd City's win bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Sulphur Bluff, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12-2 record this season.

Dodd City will face off against Bryson at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cowboys' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Sulphur Bluff does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
