Baseball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10-1 to make it four. They lost 21-11 to the Glendale Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 on Tuesday.

As for Glendale, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 25-2).

For Glendale's part, Ezekiel Trujillo was a standout: he went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Trujillo a new career-high. Leonardo Raygoza was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Independence will venture away from home to face off against Ironwood at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.61 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Glendale, they will welcome McClintock at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
