Washington speedster scores five touchdowns to go with his state-high yardage total; Morgan passes for 401 yards.

Washington (South Bend, Ind.) has one of the most explosive football teams in the nation and all that power was on display during Saturday's 46-23 victory against North (Bloomington, Ind.).

But the big story was senior wide receiver Gehrig Dieter, who turned eight catches into five touchdowns and a state-record 373 yards. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder scored from distances of 88, 80, 64, 47 and 44 yards while eclipsing the record of 362 yards shared by Rushville's Jason Yurack and Burke Eiteljorg of Indianapolis Park Tudor.

Deiter's state record total ties him for No. 8 nationally. The record is 421 yards by J.D. Felice of Rose Bud (Ark.) in 2008.

The game featured plenty of fireworks. University of Notre Dame recruit David Perkins, a 6-2, 209-pound wide receiver, got the ball rolling by breaking several tackles and racing 85 yards for a touchdown on the first play.

Sophomore quarterback Daigien Morgan also starred by completing 14 of 20 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns.
