Preseason Top 25 public school football rankings

Miami Central is the No. 1 public school in the country, and the South is represented well.

Miami Central, the No. 2 team in the preseason Xcellent 25, is the nation's No. 1-ranked public school. The Rockets return 17 starters and are a serious threat to capture both state and national championships.

Atlanta-area power Norcross is the nation's No. 2-ranked public school. Under the guidance of head coach Keith Maloof, the Blue Devils finished undefeated a year ago with a Class AAAAAA title and return numerous key players.

Sixteen of the schools in the preseason Xcellent 25 were public schools.
