Raceland is a perfect 8-0 against Morgan County since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Rams will square off against the Cougars at 12:00 p.m. Raceland will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Raceland made easy work of Lewis County and carried off an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Bryer Parsons looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Raceland let Eli Lynd and Kadin Shore run wild. Lynd went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Shore went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Lynd has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Smith, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Morgan County duked it out with Lee County on Wednesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 14-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Cooper Fleming made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Morgan County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-8 otherwise. Fleming was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Morgan County got a massive performance out of Conner Fleming, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Grayson Hampton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Raceland pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan County, their record now sits at 8-9.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Raceland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Morgan County struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
