Basketball Recap: Glen Allen Triumphs

There's no place like home for Glen Allen, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They slipped by the Riverbend Bears 68-67 on Monday.

Leading Glen Allen to victory were Faron Friend and Rj Mickleberry. Friend posted 22 points, while Mickleberry earned 17 points. Those 17 points gave Mickleberry a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase James, who scored nine points.

Riverbend's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amani Gipson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 37.3% of Riverbend's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hubert King III (Tr?), who went 6 for 12 on his way to 20 points and five boards.

Glen Allen's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points per game. As for Riverbend, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-5.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Glen Allen Jaguars challenge the Hermitage Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverbend, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverbend is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.5 points per game this season.
