Volleyball Game Preview: Ayer Shirley Panthers vs. Marlborough Panthers

Ayer Shirley hasn't had much luck against Marlborough recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Ayer Shirley will head out to take on Marlborough at 5:15 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Thursday, Ayer Shirley came up short against South Lancaster Academy and fell 3-1.

While Ayer Shirley ultimately came up short, they really made South Lancaster Academy work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21.

Meanwhile, Marlborough faced Lexington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Panthers lost 3-0 to the Minutemen. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.

Marlborough took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-23.

Having lost for the first time this season, Marlborough fell to 6-1. As for Ayer Shirley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Ayer Shirley suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Marlborough when the teams last played back in March. Can Ayer Shirley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
