Lake Central has gone a perfect 10-0 against Michigan City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Indians are taking a road trip to take on the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Lake Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Lake Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on La Porte with a sharp 9-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Jada Lewis looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Kate Renschen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches. Tegan Tripp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lake Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Porte only posted a batting average of .095.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Michigan City's offense. They came up short against Chesterton on Tuesday, falling 14-0. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Michigan City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paulecia Isom, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Lake Central pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Michigan City, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
Michigan City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Michigan City, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Lake Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lake Central took their win against Michigan City when the teams last played on April 9th by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
