Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ashlee Ledford and Avery Benfield Lead Mitchell to Victory

Mitchell's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Unicoi County Blue Devils 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mountaineers have posted since August 12, 2024.

The match was exciting from start to finish, as three sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The final score came out to 28-26, 24-26, 24-26, 25-12, 15-9.

Mitchell was led to victory by Avery Benfield and Ashlee Ledford. Benfield had 26 digs and one assist, while Ledford had ten digs. Those ten digs gave Ledford a new career-high.

Mitchell's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will face off against Erwin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Unicoi County, they will challenge Chuckey-Doak at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Blue Devils their first taste of in-conference action this season.
