While Portland didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Old Saybrook Rams by a score of 9-4 on Thursday. With that win, the Highlanders brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Conner Doyle was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Aaron Ciarleglio also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Portland pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Old Saybrook, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portland will head out to challenge Coginchaug Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Old Saybrook, they will venture away from home to square off against Old Lyme at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.4 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
