While Wagner might've come up empty on Friday, Ryan Self wasn't going down without a fight. Smithson Valley had no answer to Self as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Self has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Coming up, Self and Wagner will venture away from home to challenge Boerne-Champion at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds haven't beaten the Chargers recently, having gone 0-6 since March of 2019.
