Madeira hasn't had much luck against Reading recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mustangs and Amazons will square off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Madeira barely beat Finneytown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs and Amazons put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 31-17 win on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs and Amazons' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Aliyah Martin was a standout: she got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Mercer, who got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Reading came out on top against Deer Park on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Lillie Riedmiller was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meredith Hess, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Brooke Androne also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Reading always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .610 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Madeira's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Reading, their record now sits at 3-1.
Madeira beat Reading 7-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs and Amazons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
