Baseball Recap: Taft Find Success

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Taft had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against the Orange Grove Bulldogs by a score of 7-4. For the Greyhounds, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Gilbert Hinojosa was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Hinojosa was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Hinojosa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eric Perez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Perez has posted since back in April of 2024.

Taft is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-12-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Orange Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-10-1.

Taft will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
