Baseball Game Preview: Pebble Hills Spartans vs. Montwood Rams

The Pebble Hills Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Montwood Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Tuesday, Pebble Hills sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Coronado. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Mateo Contreras spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, Pebble Hills saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adriel Nevarez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Nevarez also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Montwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Franklin 5-4 on Tuesday.

Montwood's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Pebble Hills, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Pebble Hills couldn't quite finish off Montwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Pebble Hills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
