Basketball Recap: Rossville Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, Rossville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Hiawatha Red Hawks by a score of 57-55. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bulldogs came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Red Hawks are ranked 184th).

When it comes to explaining why Rossville lost, don't look at Jack Donovan. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 10 on his way to 18 points. The game was Donovan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Johnson, who posted ten points.

Rossville's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2. As for Hiawatha, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rossville will host Riley County on Tuesday. Rossville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Riley County likes a good challenge. As for Hiawatha, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jefferson West at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
