Football Game Preview: Sulphur Golden Tors vs. Barbe Buccaneers + How To Watch

The Sulphur Golden Tors will venture away from home to square off against the Barbe Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Sulphur is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Carencro on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Golden Tors had to suffer through a 66-34 loss at the hands of the Bears. The Golden Tors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-14.

Meanwhile, Barbe made easy work of Lafayette on Friday and carried off a 63-40 win. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Sulphur better keep an eye on Jelandon Gray. He was instrumental in Barbe's win, rushing for 200 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 161 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes. Those 200 rushing yards gave Gray a new career-high. Myles Ledoux was another key player, picking up 79 receiving yards and one score.

Barbe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 401 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

One reason for the win was Barbe's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Conner Vallerie was the leader with two. He also made six total tackles, which is notable because Barbe is 3-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 0-4 otherwise.

This is the second loss in a row for Sulphur and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Barbe, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Things could have been worse for Sulphur, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-13 loss to Barbe when the teams last played back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gray, who threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns.
