Volleyball Preview: Christopher Cougars vs. Branham Bruins

The Christopher Cougars will head out to take on the Branham Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Christopher didn't have quite enough to beat Ann Sobrato and fell 3-2. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 25-14 in the first set.

Christopher actually scored more points across those five sets (107-93), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 28-26, 11-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Juliet Tassio put forth a good effort for the losing side as she had 13 digs and three aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Kiely Jantz also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Branham not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 2nd (when they won 3-0). They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Evergreen Valley.

While Branham might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Evergreen Valley scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 28-26, 25-20.

Christopher better focus on containing Kaci Nguyen and Teagan Cummings as the pair were huge in Branham's win. Nguyen had 19 digs and five assists, while Cummings had six digs and two aces. That's the most aces Cummings has posted over her last 14 contests.

Christopher's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Branham, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season.
