Preview: Winter Park Wildcats vs. East River Falcons
Winter Park is 9-1 against East River since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Winter Park Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the East River Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Winter Park is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Last Friday, Winter Park was able to grind out a solid win over Oviedo, taking the game 47-40.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winter Park to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Childs, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Childs has scored at least 25% of Winter Park's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maliyah Lockhart, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for East River on the road against Lake Nona on Tuesday as the squad secured a 49-21 victory. Given East River's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Lake Nona is ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winter Park pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for East River, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Winter Park didn't have too much breathing room in their match against East River in their previous matchup last Friday, but they still walked away with a 34-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was East River's Yariana Lugo Perez, who scored 22 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Winter Park still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
