Soccer Game Preview: Warren vs. Harvard-Westlake

The Warren Bears will face off against the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Warren is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was Warren who was credited with the win. Warren got it done in the shootout by posting six goals to Point Loma's five. The result kept the Bears happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 22nd.

Warren will be up against a hot Harvard-Westlake squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. Harvard-Westlake put the hurt on Porterville with a sharp 6-2 victory on Tuesday. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Panthers are ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Warren has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those seven games. Harvard-Westlake pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Warren beat Harvard-Westlake by a goal when the teams last played back in February of 2018, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warren since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
