Baseball Game Preview: Escambia Gators vs. Clay Blue Devils

Escambia hasn't had much luck against Clay recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Gators will square off against the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Escambia is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bishop Kenny 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Gators have posted since March 10th.

Escambia's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Wansley, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Clay waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the War Eagles get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Rylan McMahan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Clay is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 11-13 otherwise. McMahan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Escambia's victory bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Clay, their win bumped their record up to 15-13.

Escambia came up short against Clay when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 6-2. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
