Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Culver Academies' Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Culver Academies unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marquette Catholic Blazers. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blazers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jimara Combs, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Kayla Herron was another key player, going 7 for 15 on her way to 15 points.

Marquette Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Robinson led the charge by putting up eight points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Penziol, who put up seven points.

Culver Academies' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5. As for Marquette Catholic, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Culver Academies and Marquette Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Culver Academies will face off against New Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 267 places (67 vs. 334). Culver Academies is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Marquette Catholic (ranked 61st) will meet Bowman Academy (ranked 275th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Culver Academies is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
