Football Game Preview: Gateway Olympians vs. Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks

The Gateway Olympians will head out on the road to face off against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Gateway took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Thornton, posting a 45-8 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Olympians' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

The critical scores for Gateway came from Luis Grajeda and Adriel Krangar.

Gateway was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Gateway didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jake Brock and Krangar. Krangar got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain came up short against Grand Junction on Friday and fell 43-35.

With the victory, Gateway broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.

Gateway took a serious blow against Cheyenne Mountain in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 44-0. Can the Olympians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
