Baseball Game Preview: Fitzgerald Spartans vs. Cousino Patriots

The Fitzgerald Spartans will square off against the Cousino Patriots at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fitzgerald is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Fitzgerald got the win against Sterling Heights by a conclusive 13-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Dylan Bush spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Fitzgerald is 4-2 when Bush allows two or fewer hits, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Fitzgerald let Dexter Garda and Leiland McCallep run wild. Garda went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while McCallep went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Garda a new career-high. Thomas Baranski was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Cousino lost a heartbreaker to Lamphere when they met last Wednesday, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Patriots fell just short of the Rams by a score of 7-6. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Fitzgerald's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Cousino, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
