Baseball Game Preview: Amherst-Pelham Regional Hurricanes vs. Belchertown Orioles

The Amherst-Pelham Regional Hurricanes will take on the Belchertown Orioles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Amherst-Pelham Regional has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Belchertown will arrive with three straight wins.

Amherst-Pelham Regional managed to slip by Hopkins Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hurricanes came up short against the Golden Hawks on Tuesday, falling 14-4.

Colin Beganny was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Belchertown got themselves on the board against Agawam on Thursday, but Agawam never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Brownies. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Orioles this season.

Thatcher Rudnik was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Kamden Houle was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Belchertown pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Amherst-Pelham Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Amherst-Pelham Regional has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Belchertown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
