Basketball Recap: Greeley Central Takes a Loss

Greeley Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 60-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roosevelt Roughriders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-53 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Greeley Central lost, don't look at Daniel Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards. Martinez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 23 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Owen Ward, who posted seven points.

Roosevelt found their leader in sophomore Noah Lucero, who went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for Lucero. Nolan Peterson was another key player, going 6 for 14 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Greeley Central's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Roosevelt, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Greeley Central will be playing at home against Wellington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeley Central is facing Wellington at the right time seeing as Wellington is stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Roosevelt, they are taking a road trip to face off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
