Softball Recap: Woodlawn's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Okawville, Woodlawn was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles as they made off with a 13-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hannah McKinney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 14 hits.

At the plate, MaKayla Owens was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Hanley Lamacchia was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Woodlawn hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

With the win, Woodlawn broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Coming up, Woodlawn will face off against Grayville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bison have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Odin/Patoka/Sandoval, they will square off against Okawville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
