Baseball Recap: Casteel's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

It was a good run, but Casteel unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Perry Pumas by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Colts couldn't push the score so high this time.

Casteel got a good showing from Reid Gantenbein-Puchi, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Gantenbein-Puchi has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ryan Harwood made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3.

Casteel's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-6. As for Perry, their record is now an identical 16-6.

Casteel and Perry should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. The Colts (ranked third) will meet Notre Dame Prep (ranked 83rd) at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Perry will face off against Basha at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (5 vs. 47).
