Preview: Proviso West Panthers vs. Lyons Lions
Proviso West is 0-10 against Lyons since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Proviso West Panthers will be staying on the road to face off against the Lyons Lions at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Proviso West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 345th, while Lyons is ranked 73rd).
Proviso West suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-43 walloping at the hands of Hinsdale Central. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Proviso West has suffered against Hinsdale Central since February 7, 2020.
Meanwhile, Lyons' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 36-35 to Downers Grove North. The game was a 18-18 toss-up at halftime, but Lyons was outscored by Downers Grove North in the second.
Proviso West has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Lyons, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Proviso West lost to Lyons on the road by a decisive 56-38 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can Proviso West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
