Preview: Griffith Panthers vs. Kankakee Valley Kougars
Two dominant guards in Savon Miles and Camden Webster are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Griffith Panthers and the Kankakee Valley Kougars will round out the year against one another at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Saturday, Griffith had to suffer through a rough 84-50 loss at the hands of Rich Township.
Meanwhile, Kankakee Valley pushed their score all the way to 56 last Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The game between Kankakee Valley and Andrean wasn't particularly close, with Kankakee Valley falling 73-56. While losing is never fun, Kankakee Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Andrean is ranked 86th).
Despite the loss, Kankakee Valley had strong showings from Brady Sampson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds, and Bobby Lalonde, who scored 17 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Jones, who scored six points.
Griffith's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-4. As for Kankakee Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Griffith was taken down by Kankakee Valley 77-35 in their previous meeting back in December of 2020. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Griffith was down 42-18.
