Softball Recap: New Fairfield Takes a Loss

After flying high against Weston on Monday, New Fairfield came back down to earth. The Rebels fell just short of the Pomperaug Panthers by a score of 9-8 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 19-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Gianna Garofola was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Callahan, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

New Fairfield now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Pomperaug, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Fairfield will square off against Masuk at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pomperaug, they will head out to square off against Bunnell at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
