Softball Game Preview: Freeport Red Devils vs. Lynbrook Owls

The Freeport Red Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Lynbrook Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Freeport and Baldwin, and Baldwin kept the tradition alive. The Red Devils lost 17-1 to the Bruins on April 5th. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Bruins recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Lynbrook had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cyclones, sneaking past 11-9. That's two games straight that the Owls have won by exactly two runs.

Lynbrook got a big performance out of Emma Mylan, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Mylan has posted since back in April of 2024. Kelsey Roth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lynbrook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lynbrook's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Freeport might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Lynbrook when the teams last played back in March. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
