Basketball Recap: Monacan Falls Despite Big Games from Tai Bowler and Amare Cooper

Monacan lost against James River Midlothian back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Monacan Chiefs took a 75-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James River Midlothian Rapids. The Chiefs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Monacan's loss came despite strong showings from Amare Cooper and Tai Bowler. Cooper posted 23 points and four steals, while Bowler had 12 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. The dominant performance also gave Cooper a new career-high in blocks (two). Promyse Dent was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 14 points.

Monacan's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for James River Midlothian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monacan will venture away from home to challenge Cosby at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monacan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Cosby likes a good challenge. As for James River Midlothian, they will take on Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. James River Midlothian is facing Huguenot at the right time seeing as Huguenot is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
