Baseball Recap: Coconino Comes Up Short

Coconino came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Poston Butte Broncos by a score of 4-2 on Monday. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Broncos from their previous meeting back in May of 2021.

Coconino saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abiu Chairez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Coconino and nudges their season record down to 7-12-1. As for Poston Butte, their record now sits at 7-13.

Coconino and Poston Butte could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. The Panthers will face off against Bradshaw Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (124 vs. 35). Meanwhile, Poston Butte (ranked 163rd) will meet ALA - Queen Creek (ranked 14th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
