Recap: Serra Cavaliers vs. Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits
The Serra Cavaliers were the 55-42 winner over the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Serra opened the new year with a less-than-successful 62-53 loss to Long Beach Poly. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Serra has scored all season.
Serra's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayleb Kearse, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. Kearse scored a full 45.3% of Serra's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maximo Adams, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Serra's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Long Beach Poly, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serra and St. Paul will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Paul has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 234 points over their last four matches. Long Beach Poly is on the road again on Monday and play against Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th. Jordan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Long Beach Poly is ranked 102nd).
